P3R Release: Wednesday, January 30, 2019 

For the second year in a row, the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, part of the DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events organized by P3R, will double as the USATF Half Marathon Championships. Top American runners will contend for a $85,000 prize purse during the race set for Sunday, May 5. 

 

The top 15 finishers in the male and female open divisions will earn guaranteed prize money, including $15,000 each for the male and female national champions. “Pittsburgh has a rich history of hosting world-class sporting events, and I’m thrilled that our city and running community will once again host the USATF Half Marathon Championships,” said Patrice Matamoros, P3R CEO. “We expect to attract some of the country’s finest runners for a competitive race. Athletes will also have the opportunity to earn a spot at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials with a qualifying half-marathon time.”

 

During last year’s race, Chris Derrick and Aliphine Tuliamuk won USATF Half Marathon titles, clocking 1 hour, 2 minutes, 37 seconds and 1:10:04, respectively.

 

Additionally, P3R will offer $50,500 in guaranteed prize money for top finishers in the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. The top six finishers for both men’s and women’s races will earn a cash prize, with $8,000 going to each race champion.
